A kind of decline was discovered in Da Wai Jia Commune,Jin County,Liaoning Province,on Ralls apples trees which were grafted on Malus seiboldii Rehder seedling rootstocks and topworked with starkiug or richard delicious scions in 1972.About 3000 trees were affected.It was demonstrated through indexing programs in 1981 that the affected trees contained three latent viruses,namely chlorotic leaf spot virus,stem pitting virus,and grooving virus.Stem pitting virus was the most frequent.

1972年,辽宁金县大委家公社,在基砧为三叶海棠的国光品种树上,用红星和红冠二品种接穗进行高接换种之后,发生一种衰退病,共3000余株。通过病毒鉴定,初步明确病树中潜带褪绿叶斑病毒(CLSV)、茎痘病毒(SPV)和茎沟槽病毒(SGV)三种潜隐病毒。茎痘病毒是苹果衰退病的主要毒源。

The virus preparation did not react with antisera of cucumbermosaic virus but was serologically related to beet cryptic virus,usually forming a single precipitation line in gel immuno-diffusiontests.Purified preparation showed average particle diameter of 30 nm.After isopycnic centrifugation in CsCl solution,the virus preparationformed a main band of mean density 1.376g/ml and two fainter bands.In ultra thin sections of beets no virus-like particles or no cytologicalabnormalities were observed.On basis of the above stated properties,it is primarilly concluded that the virus belongs to Beet CrypticVirus reported by Kassanis(1977).
