In 1983 a detailed seismic investigation was carried out in the Ertan areaby using of an iron mine blast of 51 tons of dynamite. The upper crustal modelof velocity structure in this area was obtained from the p wave travel timedata inversion. Three layers in the upper crust with boundary depth of 3.06,7.09, 9.07 km are identified. The Hongni fault zone dips steeply with a dipangle 75 degrees. The fault throw is 2 km in the shallow layer and 0.5 kmin the deep layer.
