This paper has presented that the clay deposit occurs in the Quaternary Zhanjiang Formation, the thickness of ore-bearing strata is great and stable, the ore bodies appear in thick-stratified forms, locally lens, the types of clay minerals can be divided into two: the hydromica-kaolin clay and the illite-kaolin clay, the ores are good in quality. This paper has also believed that the deposit is locustrine-fluvial facies sedimentary deposit. The clay ore can be acted as the raw material in ceramic industry, paper-making industry and ceramsite, besides brick and tile.

本文根据前人资料基础上,初步总结了北海市粘土矿的地质背景、矿床地质特征、矿床成因和利用现状及开发前景。文中指出粘土矿产于第四系湛江组中,含矿层厚度大、较稳定;矿体呈厚层状,局部为透镜;矿石类型可划分为水云母—高岭石粘土和伊利石—高岭石粘土两类,质量较好,认为属湖泊—河流相沉积型矿床。据应用开发研究成果,除生产砖瓦外,还可作为陶瓷工业,造纸工业和陶粒原料。
