It is concluded that for the two steels (rail steel and a low-carbon steel for seamless tube) investigated at least, there is no necessity for adhering to the specification of manganese content above a certain level(>0.15-0.2% Mn) during smelting.On the contrary, with a view to maintaining a higher manganese-containing bath, it was usually found necessary to add iron-manganese or manganese ore at the end of melting down; in doing so, the rate of carbon-removal was to a certain extent retarded, thus lengthening the period of smelting and decreasing the rate of production.The use of low manganese-containing pig-iron for the smelting of certain qualitysteels is not only feasible but also advisable from the economic point of view, provided, of course, that the sulphur content of such pig-iron can be made low to meet the necessary requirement. A review of the iron production data in certain blast furnaces at Anshan shows that this is possible, although the best conditions for producing low manganese and low sulphur pig-iron in blast furnaces deserve further a more detailed investigation.

A new process for producing medium and low-carbon ferromanganese whereby

Using an open hearth furnace slag containing about 0.5% Nb_2O_3 as raw material, a new Fe-Nb-Mn alloy containing 16%Nb, 5%Mn has been developed. It can be used effectively as a micro-alloy additive in steelmaking. Using an open hearth furnace slag containing about 0.5% Nb_2O_3 as raw material, a new Fe-Nb-Mn alloy containing 16%Nb, 5%Mn has been developed. It can be used effectively as a micro-alloy additive in steelmaking. The alloy effect of Nb in steel can be brought into full play in controlled rolling, it gives the steel products a good combination of properties. Small amount of this additive in alloy cast iron will refine the matrix structure, improve the mechanical properties and prolong the service life. Furthermore, the recovery of niobium is stable(85%).

采用一种含Nb_2O_5~0.5%的平炉渣作原料,研制了含Nb~16%、Mn~50%的铌-锰-铁.炼钢时,采用此种铌-锰-铁合金剂,能有效地起合金化作用.成材加工时采用控制轧制,充份发挥了铌在钢中的微合金化作用,使钢材具有优良的综合性能,在合金铸铁中,加入微量的铌,明显地细化基体组织,提高力学性能,延长使用寿命.
