Cracking and distortion reduction and maximum and uniform hardness during the quenching of steel can be enhanced by control of the direction and degree of agitation throughout the quenching process. It is generally desirable to increase quench severity during the initial stage of the quench in order to obrain maximum hardness. As the steel core temperature approaches the Ms temperature, it is then desirable to minimize quench severity in order to minimize the potential for cracking and distortion of the part....

Cracking and distortion reduction and maximum and uniform hardness during the quenching of steel can be enhanced by control of the direction and degree of agitation throughout the quenching process. It is generally desirable to increase quench severity during the initial stage of the quench in order to obrain maximum hardness. As the steel core temperature approaches the Ms temperature, it is then desirable to minimize quench severity in order to minimize the potential for cracking and distortion of the part. The only process variable impacting on quench severity that can be readily changed throughout the quench is agitation and it would be most ideal if the agitation rate could be continuously varied ,as required. This is now readily accomplished by the use of a computer controlled ITQS-"immersion time quenching system". ITQS are currently in use at a number of heat treating companies in Korea. This paper will discuss the principles and application of ITQS to replace oil with aqueous polymer quenchants.

The series of hardenability curves and reference carbon content curves of the effective case of several typical carburizing steel for gear were abtained by hadenability tests.The effects of the chemical composition of steel ,dimension of the workpieces and quenching severity on the reference carbon content were discussed.This will be very useful for designing carbon content of the effective case of carburizing gear.

提出用计算软件求等效端淬距离的方法。首次提出了淬透性敏感区间的概念 ;计算机模拟了长圆棒一维和端淬试样二维的非线性瞬态温度场 ;以淬透性敏感区间内的冷却时间相同为冷速判据 ,得出了直接计算等效端淬距离的算法 ;并按圆棒的直径分段回归了等效端淬距离与圆棒直径、淬火烈度的关系式。用等效硬度法对推出的分段等效端淬距离公式进行了校验。
