This paper, succeeding the preceding one "The Law of Similarity of Flow in Cooling Reservoirs", is a resume of the research works done at the Institute of Hydrotechnical Research, Peking, for some twenty hydraulic projects of cooling reservoirs.It includes the following three main topics: (1) method of modulating thermal condition of water surface and method of assessing its cooling capacity, (2) flow characteristics of thermal density current in cooling systems, and (3) some general rules on the hydraulic design of outlets and intakes in reservoirs or rivers used for cooling purpose.

Experimentally, the contours of the dis-placement increment component can be ascertained by using Moire method. Bycomparing theoretical contour patterns with experimental ones, the slip-line-field solution can be examined. The fact that the plastic plane flow of a disk is subjected to radial com-pression is studied and employed to show the approach of verification. Theresult shows that the centered-fan-field extending into the center of the diskin this case is suitable for smaller height to width ratios (h/w ≤3. 64). Animproved solution for larger ratios (h/w ≥5. 43) is proposed in accorclance withcorresponding Moire fringe patterns.
