Based on the fundamental strategies of the second language acquisition, the paper briefly introduces the close relationship between language and culture and it emphasizes the necessity and importance of culture in English teaching.
With the globalization of the world economy, college English teaching is now faced with a new challenge--how to enable students to obtain communicative competence while having a good command of the English language.
The article explores on the term of whole language, the theoretical foundation & teaching principles, teaching practice and its rationality & limitations. The purpose is to enhance the development of English teaching.
Based on various metaphor theories, this dissertation explores the classification of metaphor, its cognitive functions, cognitive cultural differences of metaphor between English and Chinese and two major characteristics of metaphor, which lays solid theoretic foundations for the analysis of metaphorical competence and the relationship between metaphorical competence and English teaching and learning.
To cope with the situation, in recent years, English language teachers in China have shown great enthusiasm in English Language Teaching (ELT) reforms and have experimented with the communicative approach.
Meanwhile, the causes for pragmatic failures in cross-cultural communication are analyzed and some suggestions for EFL teaching are advanced as well. Finally, some future remarks are made with regard to enlarging the collection of corpora, taking more variables into consideration, investigating the non-verbal part of greetings and conducting a wider tentative cross-cultural study of greetings between Chinese Culture and other Western cultures or Asian cultures.
We present evidence for a thermodynamically stable incommensurate elongated-triangle (ELT) phase in quartz, observed by transmission electron microscopy at the α-β structural transition.
The phase sequence on cooling is: incommensurate equilateral-triangle (EQT) phase (ferroelectric)-incommensurate ELT (ferroelectric and ferroelastic)- uniform α phase.
The ELT blocks could be responsible for the large light scattering in the vicinity of the α-gb transition.
This study provides a method called Ethernet Links Trunking (ELT) technology for achieving efficient connectivity between backbones and servers, which provides higher bandwidth and availability of server network interface.
The overview of the ELT technology and the results of performance experiment are presented in this paper.
This paper aims to describe Dr, S. P. Krashen's Theory of Language Acquisition and to explore the English Language teaching from a new viewpoint. According to the theory mentioned above, a right amount of language input is vital to effective learning. Therefore, language teaching must be transformed from a teacher - centered pattern into a students-centered one so as to improve strdents'communicatire ability.
The paper introduces the concept of“genre analysis”as an approach to discourse/textual analysis.Distinctions are made among “stylistic analysis”,“register analysis”and“genre analysis”.A comprehensive approach is proposed in discourse/textual analysis as practised in an EFL classroom.
In his Monitor theory,Krashen made a distinction between two types of knowledge, which mirrors the learning/acquisition distinction.Krashen also claims that these two types of knowledge cannot be converted into each other, which reflects his early claim that these two systems are totally separate. The purpose of this article is to test this aspect of Krashen's theory by an experiment, and see whether the results that may have an impact on the teaching of English in China.
