The secondary yellow red soil is a kind of forest soil formed from the residual deposit of the acient red clay. Zebra disease does not prevail in areas with an annual rainfall of less than 1,500mm, but it will become an epidemic when the annual rainfall is over 2,000mm. Cosecutive rainy days and typhoonic rains are the main factors for the spread of this disease. 4. The epidemiology of Zebra disease can be divided into three stages:a) slow spreading stage(from April to July); b) prevailing stage(from August to September); c) declining stage (from October to next March). 5. Mycelium of the fungus begins to grow at 5℃ and grows best at 27℃, and dies at 39℃ when cultured for 72 hrs. At temperatures higher than 39℃, the higher the temperature,the shorter its life.57% of mycelia in the lesion will be killed when exposed to direct sunlight for 3 days with a temperature of over 39℃ for 5 hrs each day. 6. At certain temperatures, the higher the relative humidity, the faster the lesion develops. A relative humidity above 90% will induce the mycelium to grow out of the cuticle of leaves and produce sporangia. 7. Agave americana, Agave sp.and Furcraea gigantea are disease resistant varieties. Agave fourcroydes and Agave sisalana are slightly susceptible. H.11648,H.8366 and Agave angustifolia are most susceptible. The age of 11648 has no relation with infection ratio. 8. Cutting off the diseased leaves in time before the emergence of sporangia on leaf surface is an effective method for controlling this disease.
