The percentage of empty grains on the middle or lower rachis branches arehigher than on the upper rachis branches; the empty grains are distributed on thesecond (Ⅱ) branch especially. The percentage of empty grains depends upon theirposition on a rachis branch. It appears to be increasing with the number of culms(main stem or other tillers) per plant. The number of empty and unfilled grains could be regulated over a wide rangeby the nutritional status of the hybrid rice. The number of empty grains can bedecreased by enrichment in the supply of mineral nutrients or organic foods; theweights of grain can be increased also by enrichment mineral nutrients or organicfoods. It is important in both theory and practice to discover more physiologicalcauses of the formation of aborted grains of the hybrid rice.

Experiments on inorganic nutrients for plant growth showed that fertilized eggs and creeping larvae could develop normally and survial well in the high concentration of nitrate medium,containing 100 ppm N-NaNO_3,1 ppm P-KH_2PO_4 and 1 ppm Fe—FeC_6H_5O_7·5H_2O.But they were sensitive to the ammonia,and rearing medium of 20 ppm N—NH_4NO_3,containing 12.9 ppm ammonia,killed the greater part of them within several days. Seawater containing 0.04 ppm copper of coupric sulphate could kill all larvae (918-1647 μm) within two days,but the concentrations of 0.02 and 0.03 ppm could not though end of experiment on the sixth day. Exposed trials showed that larvae averaged 451—870 μm in length had no peril within ten minutes under air temperature of 31.5℃,when the exposed period lasted 15 minutes they began to appear paralytic and died individuals,when they reached to 1936(1296—2835)μm,they could stood one half of hour to expose under 27.0℃,the mortality of 50% appeared in 40-60 minutes.

Polyamines possess a number of physiological functions. The putrescine in higher plants is primarily synthesized in the process of arginine decarboxylation.
