It is of vital importance to ascertain which period in one's life is most effective to study foreign languages: pre-teenage, teenage or adulthood and where the emphasis of foreign language teaching should be laid: elementary schools, secondary schools or colleges and universities, which is a key...

It is of vital importance to ascertain which period in one's life is most effective to study foreign languages: pre-teenage, teenage or adulthood and where the emphasis of foreign language teaching should be laid: elementary schools, secondary schools or colleges and universities, which is a key issue and a matter of vital importance. Based on the justification of the critical period hypothesis, the authors claim that the focus of our attention should be on elementary and secondary school foreign language teaching, rather than on foreign language teaching at college level. The authors suggest that elementary schools lay more emphasis on foreign language acquisition to promote the cultivation of the pupils' independent personality.

从根本上改变我国外语教学效率低下的情况,有必要展开对莱内伯格 (Lenneberg)临界期假设理论的深入探讨,在认识上解决学习外语应抓住儿童期、青少年期还是成年期这一关键问题,解决我国外语教学的重点应放在小学、中学还是大学这一带有方向性、全局性的问题。分析临界期假设理论后可以得出一项结论,即人生学外语的关键期在小学,外语教学的重点应在中小学而不是大学,而小学的外语教学则应通过抓习得训练来带动人的主体性素质培养。

At present,there exists a “time_consuming and low effect_producing” situation in China's College English language language Teaching.To deal with this problem,the theroy and principles of the Whole Language Approach can be applied into the reform of English language teaching in such areas as teaching methods,teaching module,test contents and coordinated management.

目前 ,我国高校大学英语教学普遍存在“费时低效”的现状。针对此问题 ,可以运用整体语言教学法的理论和原则 ,从教学方法、教学手段、测试内容、测试方法以及大、中、小学英语教学“一条龙管理”等方面进行改革
