In this paper, one way coupled map lattice (OCOML) model of spatio temporal chaos is investigated. Combining with unique characters of digital and image compression algorithm, spatio temporal chaotic sequence realizes encryption and decryption of a digital image. The result of experiment shows that this method has good encrypting effect and practicability. In addition, the prospective of spatio temporal chaos based multi media communication is discussed in the final part.
