This paper presents the experimental observations on the behaviour ecology of Bostrichthys sinsnsis larvae,juveniles and young.The larvae show five types of movements in different development stages: a. rotation on the bottom, b. ladderwise swimming, c,gliding, d. cruising and e.speeding.Larvae must assume a striking posture on feeding. Juveniles assume a striking posture on feeding adult copepoda,but do not so on feeding rotifera or Arte-mia salina.The young have protecting food behaviour and cave dwelling...

This paper presents the experimental observations on the behaviour ecology of Bostrichthys sinsnsis larvae,juveniles and young.The larvae show five types of movements in different development stages: a. rotation on the bottom, b. ladderwise swimming, c,gliding, d. cruising and e.speeding.Larvae must assume a striking posture on feeding. Juveniles assume a striking posture on feeding adult copepoda,but do not so on feeding rotifera or Arte-mia salina.The young have protecting food behaviour and cave dwelling behaviour.While looking for prey,the larvae, juveniles and young swim mainly at cruising speed.Lastly,morphological characteristics, ecological habits,swimming speeds,prey preception and recognition,and feeding patterns are remarked in this paper.

In the period from late postlarval stage to early young stage through juvenile stage (i.e. 27-42 days after hatching), the fry grows up faster with average TL increase of 0.887 mm per day .The growth of juvenile stage is faster than that of larval stage, they are described as allometric growth.

The fertilized eggs of flat bream, Rhabdosargus sarba were obtained through induced spawning. Under the water temperature of 20.0—21.8℃ and salinity of 32%, the ege cleavage occured 46 minutes after insemination. It took 33 hours and 10 minutes for the first larva to hatch out. The larva started feeding 3 days later and grew to juvenile stage after 9 days. The young fish of 52 days old possessed the main features of the flat bream species.
