The function of the field stop used in an infrared target simulator is discussed and a novel field stop is presented in this paper. The metal laminae of the stop, with two optical cam grooves, can be turned relatively driven directly by a stepping motor. Compared with the same field stops of foreign country, our mechanism is simpler in structure and lower in cost and can be much more easily made and controlled.
