Taiwan strait is a vital channel of sea traffics connecting the north andsouth coasts of China. The average tidal difference in Taiwan strait rangesfrom 28 cm to 522 cm. In this strait, there exists the highest spring-tide areanext only to Hangzhou Bay, and there also exists the lowest neap-tide areastanding in the second place in the China coast. There are semi--diurnal,composite and diurnal tides, and the age of the tide differs about 6 hours. Atthe same instant, spring tide may occur at one place while neap tide at theother. The largest tidal range as high as 5--7 metres and the tidal currentsso induced will become an important factor affecting the safety navigatiou andmooring of ships in the strait. The author gives an elaborate analysis to the published data in a bid tosummarize the law of tides in the Taiwan strait, and aims at makingcontributions to navigators so to safeguard the safety of navigation.

This suggests that the mathematical expressions of the physical processes in tidal inlets are not yet mature and should be adopted by coastal engineers with a good caution.

The Min Jiang Estuary is one of areas in China with strong tide. In this estuary with semidiurnal tide, the change of mean tidal range is correlated linnearly to the nodal point factor fM_2 of the lunar component tide M_2. By using of Pearson Ⅲ curve, the maximum tidal range can be obtained for all sorts of Probabilities (reproduction Periods). Along the Min Jiang Estuary, the landward change of tidal range, which is from small to large and to small again, is closely related to the topography, runoff and tides.

本文根据闽江下游有潮区的潮汐特性,应用1957—1981年的年平均潮差资料,建立了其年平均潮差与天文因素M_2分潮节点因子f_(M2)的线性回归方程,井用统计方法计算出年最大潮差,且分析了该潮差沿程变化的影响因素。
