New advances of organic synthetic reactions and catalytic asymmetric reactions in ionic liquid media are summarized in this paper. The reactions highlighted include reduction, oxidation, Friedel Crafts reaction, Diels Alder reaction, cross coupling reaction, addition reaction, condensation reaction, radical reaction, Witting reaction, rearrangement reaction and catalytic asymmetric reactions and other applications in organic synthesis.
