The plasmodesmata of senescent flowers undergo enlargement and modification,the desmotubules of plasmodesmata disintegrate and the cell wall around plasmodesmata degrades,so that it forms a channel which has a diameter of 100 ̄150um,twice or threefold as that of normal plasmodesmata.In the process of plasmodesmata enlarging and openning, a series of changes are occurred in the organelles.There are numbers of ribosomes in the cytoplasm of staminal hair cells of young buds.As the growth of young buds and the openning of buds,the numbers of mitochondria. endoplasmic reticulum and dictyosomes increase rapidly in cytoplasm,and the ribosome population decreases. When the open flowers enter the senescent stage, the large vacuole constricts and even disappears. However,the membrane structure of mitochondria maintains normal yet.Most of mitochondria immigrate to plasmodesmata.Maybe,they supply the energy for intercellular transport.
