What is Agricultural Engineering? Does it cover too wide a field to be attacked by research and planning? And what is it's relation with the other branches of engineering discipline? 10 years' practice of CSAE has answered these questions. The broadness and the comprehensiveness of Agricultural Engineering are determined by the nature of Agriculture. The important issues of land utilization, rural energy, protected farming or environmental engineering, and the application of remote sensing, computer technique and system engineering to Agriculture were discussed fruitfully in CSAE coferences in the past 10 years and not before. The close relation with biological nature of plants and animals and their products is another characteristic which distingr'shes Agricultural Engineering from other kinds of engineering. Agricultural Engineering is so important in rural development that it should put emphases not only to engineering design but also to economical and social considerations, so it is somewhat affiliated with social sciences. As such, Agricultural Engineering is not a duplicate of any other kind of engineering nor can it be replaced by any other kind of engineering. Agricultural engineers should cooperate with people of other disciplines to make ever better contributions to Chinese Agriculture which is now on it's way to modernization.

Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering(CSAE) was founded during the month of November in 1979. The paper presents the historical review and the rapid development in the past ten years of CSAE. During the early day of 40's some agriculturists found that the development of Chinese agriculture was impossible without good farm machinery and implements. Therefore, they founded the Chinese Society of Agricultural Machinery and Implement in Zhong-qing, Sichuan Province, PRC. In the middle of 40's, there were more...

Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering(CSAE) was founded during the month of November in 1979. The paper presents the historical review and the rapid development in the past ten years of CSAE. During the early day of 40's some agriculturists found that the development of Chinese agriculture was impossible without good farm machinery and implements. Therefore, they founded the Chinese Society of Agricultural Machinery and Implement in Zhong-qing, Sichuan Province, PRC. In the middle of 40's, there were more than 30 Chinese graduate students studying the agricultural engineering in U. S. A. and they made the preparations for the setting up of a Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineers. As all these works were carried out before the founding of the People's Republic of Chjina, no-body supported them. At the end of 70's the State Commision of Science and Technology of Chinese Government recognized that the agricultural engineering is branch of applied sciences. In the same year, thje Chinese Association of science and Technology(CAST)promissed Chinese agricultural engineers to organize the Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering(CSAE).At the November of this year, CSAE will celebrate her loth anniversary. Due to the hard work of all the officials and staffs of the Society and the support of CAST, China Association of Agriculture(CAA)and others, the development of CSAE is very rapid. Even though CSAE is only at the age of the she has nore than 5,100 members with high academic level all over the Country, 23 provincial societies, 6 working organizations, 11 academic committees, and 2 academic popularization and service organizations includidng the International Relationship Committe. This Committee has sent senior officials of the Society and professors to attend the annual meetings, academic conferences or seminars, exhibitions and young members to some famous institutes or universities as visiting scholars all over the world in the field of agricultural engineering.Now, CSAE is going to unite all the Chinese agricultural engineers and strengthen the academic cooperation and exchange with all the friendly foreign agricultural engineering organizations in order to heighten the academic level and speed up the enterprises in the field of agricultural engineering.At last, the author wishes to announce a good news to the members of CSAE and also world agricultural engineers that Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering and Chinese Society of Agricultural Machinery jointed to apply the national membership of the Commision Internationale Du Genie Rural(C. I. G. R.)with the name of "The Chinese Federation of Societies for Agricultural Machinery and Agricultural Engineering" at the end of last year. In the March of this year, C. I. G. R. noticed the Chinese Association of Science and Technology(CAST)that C. I. G. R. accepted the Chinese Federation as the national member of her Commission. I believe, afterwards, CSAE will make close contact with world agricultural engineering organizations of different countries through C. I. G. R..

中国农业工程学会于1979年11月正式成立。本文简要介绍该会成立前的历史回顾和近十年来的迅速发展经过。四十年代初期,我国致力于农业的有识之士发起成立中国农具学会;四十年代中期,我国留美学习农业工程专业的30多位学人,在大洋彼岸发起筹备中国农业工程师学会;七十年代后期,在有关部门的支持下,筹备成立了中国农业工程学会。十年来该会迅猛发展,目前已拥有23个地方学会、6个工作机构、11个专业学术委员会和2个事业机构,拥有全国会员5100名,其前途广阔,方兴未艾。
