    In this paper, multi-member planetary gearsets consisting of double pinions or duplex or triplex pinion are discussed,the kinematical equations and planar velocity diagrams and composite mechanism are analysed,and the theoretical method and procedure to design the layout of multi-member planetary gearboxes are established.The realizable number of speeds of a multi-member planetary gearset is equal to that of a planetary train consisting of three to five ordinary three-member planetary gearsets,so the scheme and construction to meet the speed ratios required will thus be simplified,bringing many advantages so far as dimension, weight, efficiency cost, etc. are concerned. In addition, no internal power circulation will emerge in any case.The rules and methods presented here has come about as developments based on the layout design of three member planetary trains and trains of variable connection type with three degree-of-freedom.They make it possible to extend the area of applicability of the theoretical method of designing planetary gearbox schemes.New satisfactory layouts meeting the speed ratios required could thus be found easily.
