Shadow-moire technique is a kind of three-dimensional strain measurement, it is a useful experimental method in measuring the displacement in W-field. Clear advantages of this method are the simplicity of instruments, ease of operation and giving messages of the whole field.This paper presents an outline of the basic principle of Shadow-moire technique, the optical system of light source and camera for practical applications are analyzed and the quotable conclusions are provided. In addition, the application of the shadow-moire technique in displacement measurement is explained by a bending test of simply supported plate loaded with a concentrated force. It is used to determine the displacement of the parabolic shell surface. In this paper a simple and convenient method-the double-exposure method is recommended to study the displacement field for three-dimensional curved face. Meanwhile, the improvement on the sensitivity is briefly discussed.
