The perameters of trajectory analysis were determined by using the results of releasing-catching experiments and through the trajectory analysis under different composition of the presuming flight parameters. The results displayed that the exact flight parameters were: take-off at 20 o' clock, succession flying for 8~9 hours each night. Data of this insect of 3 years in 7 representative counties selected from Huaihe and Yangtze river rice areas were applied in the back and forward trajectory models to utilize and verify the above parameters. The method to determine the source regions was also given in detail. The limitation and further research fields of trajectory analysis were also discussed.

That is, take off time is around sunset (or sunrise) to twilight, but descent time needs to be specified with the flight capacity and migratory features of the objective species; the flying altitude is between the PBL top and the height where temperature is near the flight threshold of the objective species; their tracks are generally following wind streems, but modified to some extent by orientation of macroinsects, and their ground speed is the vector sum of wind speed and their air speed. This scheme will be useful for the numerical simulation of insect migratory pathways, and thus be valuable for the inter regional forecast of migratory insect pests.
