Over based sulfurized calcium alkyl phenolate, an additive designated as "Lan-115B", was synthesized by a new procedure, using naphthenic acid and a small amount of calcim acetate in stead of higher alcohol and product sulfonate. Naphthenic acid was used to promote the calcium carbonate, an over basic component, to be dispersed and dissolved in the oil solution of Lan115B, and calcium acetate was used to improve the carbonation, lower the viscosity of the over based product, and prevent the skin formation on the product surface when exposed to air for a prolonged period.

This paper presents the method of controlling the calcification end pointof high basic calcium naphthenate by measuring the variation of pH valueof reactants as well as the filtration process with calcium carbonate as filteraid.These two technologies are important ensuring the product quality andreducing environmental pollution.No.30 QC motor oil and CZA No.10 marinecylinder oil are successfully formulated,evaluated and tested in actual appli-cation.
