The enzymatic cleavage of threonine is inhibited by p-chloromercuribenzoate.The production of acetaldehyde proceeds linearly with time up to a period of 90 minutes under the experimental conditions used. The rate of reaction is proportional to the enzyme concentration, when the substrate is in excess. The relation of substrate concentration to the rate of acetaldehyde formation was determined and the Michaelis constant was evaluated. From the results obtained it can be concluded that the general properties of this enzyme are similar to the threonine aldolase of animal tissues.This enzyme seems to be widely distributed in the plant kingdom.

沙冬青(Ammopiptanthus mongolicus)是我国荒漠特有的常绿灌木。它具有明显的旱生结构,叶片有浓密的表皮毛,角质层极厚,气孔深陷,栅栏组织发达等,因而持水力和耐热性也强。这些特征有利于适应夏季的干旱炎热和冬季的严寒。沙冬青的蒸腾强度和光合强度均很低,故生长缓慢。
