 In this article, all definitions of pipestring neutral pointmentioned in previous occasions and their mechanical properties are analyzed in detail. The relationship between the neutrl point, the axial zerostress point and the neutral section is discussed. Answers are presented to such problems as whether the neutral point is the unstable demarcation point of the pipestring while bent. In recent years many methods are proposed based on deviation analysis,such as optimum dividing algorithm of multiwell logs. In this algorithm targeted interval is taken as a system. The method requires that in each stratum the differences of the same kind logs should be the smallest,and in different stratum... Determination of stratum boundary from well logs is the first step of facies analysis and stratum correlation among holes. Classical algorithm of determining boundaries from well logs is deviation analysis. In recent years many methods are proposed based on deviation analysis,such as optimum dividing algorithm of multiwell logs. In this algorithm targeted interval is taken as a system. The method requires that in each stratum the differences of the same kind logs should be the smallest,and in different stratum the difference the largest. This method is simple. But there are three defects in it. The first is the number of stratum boundary must be given in advance. The second is even if the number of boundaries is correctly given, the results may be unreliable. The last is this algorithm takes lots of compute time because ergodic method is used. Convergent condition of optimum dividing algorithm and heuristic search rules were proposed for avoiding false boundaries and reducing compute time. The convergence condition is based on montone nondecreasing function of dividing meansquaresum sequence (defined as logging data dividing meansquaresum sequence later).Whenever adding a new layer, compared to its maximum value, increment of meansquaresum must be the minimum. And the ratio of the new added layers′ mean squaresum to its maximum should be proper. To avoid false formation and cut down compute time, three log curve patterns such as jump, gradual variation and peak are used to define search ranges of formation boundary point.
