Combined with the control strategy for the conditioner to stabilize the dc side capacitor voltage, the powers on the two system connections of UPQC, under the same condition of electric power network and load, are analyzed, including the ac and the dc components in the instantaneous power exported by electric power network and the ones consumed by series controller, parallel controller...

The basic operation principle of universal power quality controller (UPQC) and its two basic system connections are investigated. Combined with the control strategy for the conditioner to stabilize the dc side capacitor voltage, the powers on the two system connections of UPQC, under the same condition of electric power network and load, are analyzed, including the ac and the dc components in the instantaneous power exported by electric power network and the ones consumed by series controller, parallel controller and load. The constitution of the components and their actions are analyzed, too. The conclusion obtained can provide a reference for determining the system connections of UPQC and capacity estination, and it can also be used in engineering application.
