The irreversible adsorption and thermal desorption of CO and O2 over supported Perovskite type catalyst, La07Sr0.3MnO8/γ-Al2O3 have been studied. The irreversible adsorption and thermal desorption of CO and O2 over supported Perovskite type catalyst, La07Sr0.3MnO8/γ-Al2O3 have been studied. The infrared spectroscopic patterns of catalyst with adsorbed O2 and CO were measured and the products of thermal desorption were analyzed by chromato-graphy. Experimental results indicate that the exchange between the gas phase and surface oxygen is very accessible, and that the reaction mechanism of the oxidation of CO on supported Perovskite catalyst at low temperature region is still Eley-Rideal mechanism. Lattic oxygen participates in reaction with CO only at above 140℃.The main distinction between supported and non-supported catalyst is that the adsorption of the product CO2 on the former is much stronger, thus the oxidation of CO is inhibited and its catalytic activity is lower than that of the latter. This is attributed to the interaction between CO2 and the support, i. e. the adsorbed CO2 species combine with the OH radical of the support 7'-Al2O3 to form a quasi-basic carbonate structure.
