Dr Yuk Wing Lee was a scientist in electrical engineering of the early 20th century of China. He got acquainted with V. Bush and N. Wiener and cooperated with them in the design of electric networks in the 1920s when he was studying in the United States. After returning to China in the early 1930s,he taught in the National Tsinghua University as a professor and devoted himself to education and research. He brought about the visit of Wiener to Tsinghua during 1935-37, which is of great significance in the history...

Dr Yuk Wing Lee was a scientist in electrical engineering of the early 20th century of China. He got acquainted with V. Bush and N. Wiener and cooperated with them in the design of electric networks in the 1920s when he was studying in the United States. After returning to China in the early 1930s,he taught in the National Tsinghua University as a professor and devoted himself to education and research. He brought about the visit of Wiener to Tsinghua during 1935-37, which is of great significance in the history of modern Sino-American scientific exchange. In the beginning of 1946, Dr Lee went back to MIT as a visiting professor and initiated his research on statiscal theory in com-munication. During the succeeding twenty-odd years his efforts gained fruitful results. He had forged a profound friendship with Wiener, and the 30 years' collaboration between them exerted a positive impact on their scientific career.

李郁荣博士是中国现代早期电机工程学家,20年代在美国求学期间便结识布什和维纳等著名科学家并与他们共同开展研究。30年代初他学成归国,执教于清华大学电机工程系,积极从事教育和科研工作,促成了维纳访问清华大学并继续与之进行合作研究,这在现代中外科技交流史上有着重要意义。抗战时期,他的科研工作被迫中断。1946年初应邀重返麻省理工学院访问,开始致力于探讨通讯中的统计理论,在此后的二十多年时间里取得了一系列成果。他与维纳之间有着深厚的友谊,而两人长达数十年的合作对彼此的科学生涯都产生了积极的影响。
