Infection by the fungus was effected within the range of 13-35℃ of soil tempera- ture,but the optimum range was 16-25℃,with 22℃ as the temperature in which most infection occurred. Relationships between infections and sowing dates were consistent in the main with those between infections and temperature.No great difference of infection percentage was observed in corn sown in spring and corn sown in summer was rarely infected. Percentage of infection was high when moisture capacity of soil was 15.5%, but it decreased when humidity was too high or too low.The fungus that overwint- ered in the moist conditions brouqht about higher,infections to seedlings. Seedlings covered with a thicker layer of infected soil in the period of sowing showed a higher percentage of infection. The fungus could only live for two seasons under the field conditions.
