This paper reports the methods and resulte of investigations of concentrations of Rn and Rnprogeny α potential energy in air in selected regions of china organized by National EnvironmentalProtection Agency in the years of 1983—1990.The investigation was conducted in 21 selected cities of15 provinces and some specific areas(coal dreg brick houses,civil defence underground constructions,beach,water surface and caves).Immediate measurement methods(double filter method,scintillationmethod,balloon method and activated charcoal method)and integrated measurement methods(tracketch method)were employed in the investigation.In consideration of the significance of long-term av-erage concentrations in assessing detriment of radon inhalation and of high incidence of lung cancer inresidents living in cavedwellings in north China and in some cities,Rn concentrations in cave-dwellingsin Yanan region and in resident houses in Ha rbin city were also investigated in the late phase of theinvestigations the investigation,outdoor measurement points were selected at the same points as rou-tine measurements if seasonable,while indoor measurement points in various types of construction.The investigation results indicate:1.In these cities,outdoor Rn concentrations averagely rangfrom 3.3 to 40.8 Bq·m~(-3),Rn daughter product α potential energy concentrations from 1.54 to11.4×10~(-8)J·m~(-3);2.Indoor Rn average concentration vary from 7.5 to 170.8 Bq·m~(-3),Rndughter α potential energy average concentrations from 3.0 to 45.5×10~(-8)J·m~(-3);3.At the watersurfaces of Dong lake(Wuhang),Qiandao lake(Zhejiang)and Dahuofang reservoir(Liaoning),Rnaverage concentrations rang from 2.2 to 5.5 Bq·m~(-3),equivalent equilibrium Rn concentrations ofRn daughter products from 0.88 to 3.62 Bq·m~(-3),the contribution of Rn progeny to absorbtion doserate in air above the waters is 0.3—1.2 nGy·h~(-1),average value 0.9 nGy·h~(-1);4.In 25 cave-dwellings of Yanan region,average Rn concentrations are 36.0 Bq·m~(-3),which is much lower thanindoor concentration of Harbin city(73.1 Bq·m~(-3)),but highter than that in Wuhang city(14.5 Bq·m~(-3))and Xian city(13.7 Bq·m~(-3)).

The air pollution of Yan'an City is that of coal smoke, and the main pollutant is bug dust. The daily variation regularity of pollutant concentration is significant, with the feature of double peaks and double valleys. The peak values appear at 6:00~10:00 and at and at 18: 00 ~22:00 respectively, and the valley values appear at 11: 00~14: 00 and 0:00~5:OO, respectively.

延安市区大气污染属煤烟型污染。污染物浓度有明显的日变化规律,且有双峰双谷特点,每日峰值出现在6∶00~10∶00和18∶00~22∶00;谷值出现在11∶00~14∶00和0∶00~5∶00,市区主要污染物是飘尘。

Comprehensive utilization of resources is a great long-term strategy in national economy construction and development. The current pollution caused by waste materials in Yanan City was been discussed in the paper. The strategies and implementation for exploiting waste materials resources have been proposed as basis of the city environmental plans.
