This paper presents a 3 D display system realizing on micro computer tidal wave propagation. In the course of study, some problems, such as the light treatment, coordinate transformation, concealment elimination, etc., have been solved. During the development of the display system, a technique of twice coding was adopted in an attempt to compress moving pictures on micro computer. The system has been used to show the dynamic propagation of M 2 tidal wave in the East China Sea. The whole process including the combination of a rotating tidal wave and a progressive wave and the resulting moving standing wave in the region of the South Yellow Sea Radiate Shoal, can be demonstrated vividly on a micro computer screen.
