The side-lobe levels of a pulse compression system are considered as a majorquestion.Firstly,a thecretical result on the side-lobe levels caused by amplitudefluctuation in frequency domain,phase fluctuation,phase error and amplitude flu-ctuation in time domain has been detaily analyzed.When we use a simple amplitudeHamming weighting function in time domain for double dispersive pulse compressionsystems (compression ratio equal 70 and 50)the side-lobe levels are only -28 db and-24 db respectively.Some effective...

The side-lobe levels of a pulse compression system are considered as a majorquestion.Firstly,a thecretical result on the side-lobe levels caused by amplitudefluctuation in frequency domain,phase fluctuation,phase error and amplitude flu-ctuation in time domain has been detaily analyzed.When we use a simple amplitudeHamming weighting function in time domain for double dispersive pulse compressionsystems (compression ratio equal 70 and 50)the side-lobe levels are only -28 db and-24 db respectively.Some effective measures must be taken to eliminate or to reducethose above mentioned factors causing the rather high side-lobe lovels.Secondly,various methods have been considered to improve the side-lobe levelsfor the pulse compression system realized by double array SAW devices.These me-thods are synthetic method,squared up method and stagger width etc.Among ofthem,synthetic one is very effective.If the single delta-function model and the FFTalgorithm are used in the computer simulation,then for the same compression systems(the compression ratio equal 70 and 50)-40 db and -36.8 db of side-lobe levels canbe satisfactly obtained.The synthetic method is provided in this article.At last,a simple approach is given to reduce the diffraction error.

It is proved experimentally that a nonlinear frequence modulation(N—FM)signal can be generated by N—FM SAW dispersive delay line(DL). The N—FM—DL can be implemented by a double dispersive structure(DD). In this article some results about the study of a SAW power series FM—DL(PFM—DL)with time—bandwidth product of 160 and fractional bandwidth of 32% are presented. Both the method of frequence spectrum evolution and the way of seeking new coefficient, designing DD—PFM—DL, have been suggested. Calculated and observed results of frequence spectra, self—correlation pulces and group delay curves of these DL have been shown. Generally speaking, thse methods will be also applied to design any N—FM—DL. However, it must be noted that it can be used only when the relation of Fourier transform between frequence domain and time domain(ie, the geometrical patten of Interdigital transnsducer)is kept.
