This paper is to describe the general geological conditions in this area and the geological characteristics of the deposit. The formation of the gold (nickel) deposit is discussed from various aspects such as the nature of mineralizing source rocks (the gold-bearing ultrabasic rocks), the sulfur isotope composition, the source of silica, the gold abundance of ultrabasic rocks and the gold concentration in their weathering crust and the cilicified rocks, the characteristics of fluid inclusions and temperature of mineralization,the conditions of gold mobilization and removal the hydrothermal alteration series occurred in ultrabasic rocks, etc. It is thought to be mainly a middle-temperature hydrothermal gold deposit formed by acidic hydrothermal alteration of ultrabasic rocks. 'The Hydrothermal Type Gold Deposit in Altered ultrabasic Rocks' is a new type of gold deposits and suggests a new concept to metallogeny.

The significance of gold abundance in the formation of gold deposits is a subject worthy of further study. Most gold deposits in the world relate to metamor-phic rocks, but in fact, the gold abundance of these rocks is not so high. Metamor-phic rocks in Jinchangyu district is also low in gold abundance. Amphibolites which are host rocks of the deposits have only 3.1 ppb gold, but the "dissoluble property" of gold in amphibolite is the best among the rocks related to gold-ore deposits, this enables the gold easy...

Most gold deposits in the world relate to metamor-phic rocks, but in fact, the gold abundance of these rocks is not so high. Metamor-phic rocks in Jinchangyu district is also low in gold abundance. Amphibolites which are host rocks of the deposits have only 3.1 ppb gold, but the "dissoluble property" of gold in amphibolite is the best among the rocks related to gold-ore deposits, this enables the gold easy to activate, migrate and enrich under suitable metallogenic conditions. Therefore, amphibolites should be the best source rocks of the deposit.

金丰度对矿床形成的意义是值得深入研究的课题。世界上多数金矿与变质岩有关,但在事实上,后者的金丰度并不是很高。金厂峪矿区变质岩金丰度亦较低,作为金矿围岩的斜长角闪岩中的金仅为3.1ppb,但是金的“易溶性”是所有与金矿有关岩石中最好的。这就使它易于在适当的成矿条件下活化、迁移和富集成矿。因此,斜长角闪岩应是金矿的最佳矿源层。
