    It was found that the sign of the suspension effect is closely related with the electric charge of the solid particles. For laterite, red loam and coagulated albumin, there appeared an acid suspension effect at higher pH and alkaline effect at lower pH, with a zero △pH between the suspension and the supernatent solution at their isoelectric points.

Nevertheless, the methods of measurement and calculation ever adopted for such problems are far from their perfection. Besides, the correct values of the main fitting clearance(excess fitting)in diesel engine have to be determined by some scientific calculating methods based on the finite element method (FEM)for the so called elasticity contact problems. Of which, the fictitious element method is simple and practical while the mixed fictitious element method has the distinctive features of rersatility and accuracy. In the end, examples are given to show the reliability and effectiveness of these two methods.

    In this paper the author derived the relative equation between the principal dir-ection and the relative principal direction of surfaces of cylindrical gears. Thisequation may be taken as a judgement whether principal direction and relativeprincipal direction of cylindrical gears are coincidence or not in meshing. Alsois given a theoretical basis for analysing surfaces contact condition.
