Fracture of shaft head of brake drum for the left front pilot wheel which was just installed caused the automobile to turn over. Chemical composition, microstructure, fractograph and hardness of the failed shaft head were examined. It was concluded that improper chemical composition and a lot of metallurgical defects caused crack initiation, leading to brittle fracture.

Analysis on defect and the work of contrast about microstructure and fatigue life are carried out at same time between the materials of home and Germen back wheel hub axle. On base of the above, the reason of early fatigue inactivation occured in home back wheel hub axle are founded. The test results show that mass of metallurgical defect exist in the material and a great amount of Mo, Cr, Ca, Cl, O, Na, K are founded in the zone of rarefaction cavity defect, but there is no element Mo in the substrate. Analysis on defect and the work of contrast about microstructure and fatigue life are carried out at same time between the materials of home and Germen back wheel hub axle. The test results show that mass of metallurgical defect exist in the material and a great amount of Mo, Cr, Ca, Cl, O, Na, K are founded in the zone of rarefaction cavity defect, but there is no element Mo in the substrate. This proves that the substrate isn't alloyed. The occurrence of cavity is the real reason about over early generation of fatigue crack. The test results may be treated as the theoretical rule about material choosing for back wheel hub axle of home car.

采用扫描电子显微分析和电子探针成分分析等检测方法,比较研究了国产轿车后轮毂轴与德国产轿车后轮毂轴的材料的显微组织与疲劳寿命,同时对材料的缺陷进行分析,找出了国产轿车后轮毂轴的早期疲劳失效的原因,试验结果证明在材料当中存在大量的冶金缺陷,在缺陷处检测出大量的Mo、Cr、Ca、Cl、O、Na和K等,且为疏松状“孔洞”,基体材料中不含Mo元素,说明没有达到合金化的目的。这些“孔洞”的存在是疲劳裂纹过早产生的根本原因。试验结果为国产轿车后轮毂轴的材料选用提供理论依据。
