An adaptive bi channel Lattice filter algorithm is derived, and it is applied to fault detection for dynamic systems. The advantage of this fault detection scheme is that accurate mathematical model of unknown system are not required for the purpose of fault detection. In advance, the fault residual series is generated from the system input and measured output using the proposed Lattice filter algorithm. Then the fault detection is carried out by performing statisitical test on the fault residual series. An application of this approach to detect fault in a simulated DC servo system has been made, and satisfactory result is obtained.
