Methods Cadmium in river water was separated and enriched with sulfhydryl cotton, in the presence of 4×10~3 % emulsifier OP and H3PO4-NaH2PO4 water solution, Victoria Pure Blue BO reacted with [CdI4]2- forming an ionic-associated complex and the color of the solution changed from yellow to pure blue, and the content of trace cadmium in river water was determined by spectrophotometry.
When proposed method was used to determine Hg(Ⅱ) in water by Separating and Enriching of Sulphydryl Cotton,satisfactory results were obtained,the relative standard deviation was from 2.1% to 4.7% and the recoveries were from 99.3% to 101.2%.

Methods Pb and Cd in the samples were enriched in the sulphydryl cotton column under the conditions that the pH of the samples was adjusted to 7 and collected by washing the column with 4 ml of 0.2 mol/L HCl solution.
The order of adsorpiion was found to be. HA>sediment>sulphydryl cotton>MnO2>Illite>Kaolinite>Fe2O3>SiO2The adsorptional behavior followed Frendlich adsorption isotherm for all the sediment's components.
