This paper is a summary of the Explanatory Notes for the 1:4,000,000 scale "Lithospheric Dynamics Map of China and Adjacent Seas", which gives an overview of the geological and geophysical processes that are presently active or have been active in the Cenozoic. The focus is on intraplate phenomena and on explaining them in terms of fundamental plate tectonic processes.The lithosphere beneath China is very heterogeneous, Its dynamics concerns the nature of 8 active subplates and related 17 tectonic blocks, their relative motions and tectonic stress field, and the characteristics of neotectonic deformation. Consequently the present-day movement and deformation of the lithosphere in China, their relationship with the deep-seated processes, and the lateral heterogeneity, mass difference and stresses within it that will tend to cause movement in the future are illustrated.The intraplate tectonics and stress field are mainly controlled by the heterogeneity of the lithosphere and the mode of interaction between subplates and their boundary conditions. The collision of the Indian plate with the Eurasian plate commenced and proceeded along the Tethys ocean side produced a strong compressional stress in western China and brings about high shear in the regions around the eastern and western corners of the Himalaya block. However eastern China is directly influenced by the Pacific side plate boundaries. The minimum pricipal stress here is tensional, which makes the shear stress high, it may be the cause of the high seismicity in North China and southeastern China sea coast.Some features of the tectonic stress field in China are the expression of the interferences by boundary conditions along the Indian and Pacific Ocean side. The key factors that govern the formation of active structures are the mutual interaction of preexisting tectonic features, the changing geodynamic setting and the stress field.

The seismo-structure causing Songpan earthquake,Huya fault generates deformation under the role of compressive stress for a long time. The vertical slip rate is 3.0mm/a. The vertical slip rate of Mingjiang fault is only 0.4mm/a in normal times, it is capable of sensitively showing the anomary of tensile and compressive creep in environmental region. Such as luhou, Songpan, Daofu earthquake region etc., the anomary of creep is 2.03±0.06mm in Mijiang fault before Songpan earthquake, and the environmental fracture Shows the anomary of creep in varying degrees. Beginning to end time and quantity of creep anomary in survey points are related to magnitude and distance from focus region.

In order to study the thermal evolution of the Barbados accretionary complex,spatial coordinate and material coordinate are combined to handle the problem ofadvective heat transfer produced by tectonic movements. Upwind method is used inspatial coordinate of fixed grids, while grids are changing with deformation in materialcoordinate. Flow of fluid fromcompacted and dehydrated subducted sediments along the decollement to thedeformation front is critical for interpretation of the local heat flow pattern.

为研究巴巴多斯增生复合体构造热演化的过程,采用空间坐标系和质点坐标系相结合的方法,在处理构造运动和变形的平流热效应时,并用变网格法及固定网格中的迎风法,成功地对该区域进行了二维有限单元法热模拟。计算结果表明,巴巴多斯增生复合体前弧下存在较高孔隙压力(约为岩体压力值的0.8)和一定摩擦生热(等效摩擦系数约为0.17),俯冲沉积物压密和脱水排出的水沿脱顶断层从变形前锋流出是解释该区地热特征的必要条件。
