This paper describes the development of a program system with Z80microcomputer to check the mechanical strength of internal combustion en- ??gine parts. The program system is composed of the calculations of the dynamics ofinternal combustion engine,the continued bending beam on elastic sup-ports,and two-dimensional FEM with auto-generating mesh for stress ana-lysis as well as the strength check calculation. The boundary condition based on dynamic and continuous beam calcula-tion is used together with FEM to compute the deformation,strain and stressof each throw at any crankshaft angle,and then to check the mechanicalstrength of the whole crankshaft. Considering the influence of residual stress and technological reenforce-ment,the strength check based on Goodman diagram becomes more practicaland reliable. The difference between crankshaft stresses calculation and measurementis within the permissible limit for engineering application. This program system is useful for internal combustion engine designers,researchers and manufacturers to check the strength of crankshafts.

This paper describes the influences of fuel specific density,aromatic content and cetane number on ignition delay of D. I. diesel, and shows thecorresponding experimental results. The curves of relationship between fuel viscosityand specific density, cetane number and specific density, cetane number and aromaticcontent and etc. are also given. This is one of author's research achievements of theinfluence of fuels on diesel engine combustion.
