It is pointed out in the paper that three different points of view have been introduced: (1) bonding is purely a frictional process; (2) heat and plastic strain are important, with melting sometimes taking place; (3) the factors of friction, plastic strain, and heat should all be taken into consideration, but still there appears no melting phenomenon. In concluding the paper, the future trend of developement is discussed.

This paper shows much experimentation on the friction and wear of the three-body free abrasive grit, which exists between movement pairs and is commonly seen in engineering mechanism, Expriments have been made on the effects on friction and wear caused by the size, shape, hardness and load of grit, and also by its specific sliding. Some tiral analyses and preliminary discussion of them have also been made. The author believes the mechanism of friction with grit is different to that of dry friction, because some portion of the grit being in a rolling state have great influence upon the process of friction besides the extruding, cutt- ing and meshing effects of grit. Both experiments and theoretical analyses have shown clearly that friction is related to wear, but either must not be identified, The coefficient of friction and the rate of wear with grit are always larger than those without grit. When the grit size is smaller than the critical size, both the coefficient of friction and the wear rate will be increased with the increase of the grit size. The critical grit size is a fixed range; and the one for friction is not completely consistent the offer for wear. If grit is sharp anp irregular, the coefficient of friction, consumption of energy and wear speed will be greater. In order to decrease abrasive wear, it is essential to make every effort to prevent abrasive grit from entering the movement pair, properly increase the hardness of the machine parts, and correctly select the rate of hardaness.

目前,关于磨粒摩擦学问题,对固定磨粒、磨损研究得多,而对摩擦系数、运动副间的自由磨粒的摩擦系数和磨损研究得很少。本文对工程机械中常见的、在运动副之间存在的磨粒,即所谓三体自由磨粒的摩擦和磨损进行了试验研究,就有关磨粒尺寸、形状、硬度以及负荷、滑差对摩擦和磨损的影响进行了试验,并对试验结果作了初步分析讨论。作者认为,有磨粒的摩擦机理与干摩擦机理不同,除了磨粒的挤压、切削和啮合作用以外,部分磨粒处于滚动状态对摩擦过程有重要的影响。试验和分析都表明,摩擦和磨损之间既有联系又不能把二者等同起来。有磨粒时的摩擦系数和磨损率总比无磨粒时要大。当磨粒尺寸小于临界尺寸时,摩擦系数和磨损率都随磨粒尺寸的增加而增加;临界磨粒尺寸是一个范围;摩擦和磨损的临界磨粒尺寸也不完全吻合。尖锐的、不规则形状的磨粒,摩擦系数、能量消耗、磨损速度都较大。为了减少磨料磨损,应尽量避免磨粒进入运动副,适当地提高零件材料的硬度,正确选择硬度比。
