The maximum reduction in height obtainable in upsetting operations, such as heading, is limited by the onset of cracking on the expanding free surface. The onset of cracking is dependent upon: the interf acial friction between the dies and workpiece, the geometry of the workpiece, the nature of the free surface and the ductility of the work material which is influenced by its prior deformation history. These variables are discussed in relation to the maximum reduetionpossible before the onset of surface cracking....

The onset of cracking is dependent upon: the interf acial friction between the dies and workpiece, the geometry of the workpiece, the nature of the free surface and the ductility of the work material which is influenced by its prior deformation history. These variables are discussed in relation to the maximum reduetionpossible before the onset of surface cracking. Tozawa's proposed standard specimen for upsetability testing is described and is recommended for industrial use.The linear fracture condition which has been shown to be applicable to a wide variety of materials of engineering importance, is detailed with special reference to its technological significance. Some of the theories of ductile fracture that have been applied to this problem of barrel cracking are briefly described.The aim of much of the analytical and numerical research work related to upsetting is to trace strain paths to fracture and explain the linear fracture condition. The former can now be done using finite element techinques and the latter has been attempted using a number of theories of ductile fracture. The further aim of both plant and academic engineers is to understand how it is possible to improve the workability of materials in forming operations.

It is very important to study the impact behavior of composite for the developing investigation and use of composite. The specimens used here were different kinds of composite wires which were fabricated by means of the Ti-B (CVD) coated carbon and graphite fiber then infiltrating with the liquid Al alloy. The methods of heat exposure at different temperature in vacuum and thermal cycling between room temperature and 450℃ have been used to change the composite interfacial bonding state. It is found that there are close relation between interfacial bonding state and impact energy. The impact energy could be increased by the way of slacking the interfacial bonding state. With the help of the micrograph of the impact fracture surface, it is found that matrix deformation, fiber pulling-out, debonding and interfacial friction between fiber and matrix, as well as surface energy are important energy absored mechanism.

研究了碳/铝复合材料在不同的界面结合状态下的冲击性能。用真空热处理的方法和室温至450℃温度范围内热循环的方法改变界面的结合状态。发现界面结合增强,冲击能量下降,界面结合松驰,冲击能量提高。用扫描电镜观察了试样的冲击断口的形貌,发现基体变形、纤维拨出、基体和纤维脱粘、脱粘造成的界面摩擦等是冲击能量吸收的几种方式。
