The experimental results showed that the rate of degradation of PVAc follows Ovenall's equation approximately and that of HPAM deviates from the equation. The effects of the ultrasonic intensity and reaction temperature on the rates of degradation are the same. Its structure was identified by means of solubility test, IR, NMR, element analysis, electron microscope and phase contrast microscope, and the copolymer was proved to be mainly a block one.

By means of contrast microscope,transmission electron microscope,high-speed stirrer and rotational viscometer,the effect of HEC-b-PEO on the compatibility,shear resis- tance,thermal stability,salt tolerance,acid stability,adsorption on quartz,thickening and fluid loss properties of HEC/PEO aqueous solution were studied respectively.HEC- b-PEO is an excellent compatibilizer of the incompatible HEC/PEO system,the properties of HEC/PEO blend get much better in the presence of HEC-b-PEO.
