There are two important parameters for evaluating hydrocarbon resources in a sedimentary basin, namely, the proportion of source rock and the temperature at which organic substance in source rock changes into hydrocarbon. The former origi-nates hydrocarbon,and the latter controls hydrocarbon generation level and the con-sequent variation. Gravimetric data can be used to calculate the thicknesses of sedi-mentary formations, aeromagnetic data may be used to obtain Curie isothermal sur-face,and ground temperature...

As a result,people can estimate source rock volume within the threshoId temper-ature of hydrocarbon generation,then predict hydrocarbon resources.

The depth of Curie isothermic surface (underneath depth of magnetic body) under the Tarim basin is obtained by taking the result of moment spectrum method as a restrictive model of Parker-Oldenburg method. As a result, deep faults reflected by gradient of Curie depth contour divide the deep part of the basin into two areas where Curie surface uplifts and other three areas under which Curie surface subsides. Relatively to the tectonics in above overburden,there exist homomorphous and anti-homomorphous tectonic structures in the uplifted areas and subsidence areas respectively.
