Sticking to the “patient centered” concept and arranging its work around the demand of the masses for good medical care, the hospital has laid particular emphasis on the nursing, rehabilitation and treatment of elderly patients. With the deepening of medical reform in China, hospitals are confronted with unprecedented opportunities and challenges. In the spirit of the Central Working Conference on public health, our hospital has succeeded fairly early in readjusting its orientation. Sticking to the “patient centered” concept and arranging its work around the demand of the masses for good medical care, the hospital has laid particular emphasis on the nursing, rehabilitation and treatment of elderly patients. Improvement of the quality of the staff and their delivery of services is also stressed. Taking “total quantity control and structure readjustment” as its guiding principle, the hospital has effectively contained the rise in medical expenses and reduced the economic burdens of the patients, thus winning a place for itself on the market. In addition, the hospital has, on the basis of scientific management, exerted itself in reducing costs and increasing profits, thus greatly enhancing its competitiveness. Thus of a new path for the survival and development of grass roots hospitals has been blazed.

Methods Irregularly scheduled investigations were conducted by means of questionnaires specially designed to facilitate patients voice of opinions and suggestions based on their different requirements towards various sections. These sections included emergency departments of hospitalization, internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, and pediatrics; medicotechnical departments; various kinds of dispensaries; the registration and charging section, and the section of rear service. Results The construction of medical ethics and professional work like medical treatment were put on the right course of simultaneous arrangement, examination and appraisal; delivery of wholecourse highquality service and establishment of a civilized profession kept deepening, with patients really benefiting from the practice and the hospitals competitiveness being enhanced. Conclusion The practice of conducting compartmental satisfaction ratio investigations has enhanced the hospitals comprehensive competitiveness and sped up the construction of both material civilization and spiritual civilization.

Then it analyzes the features of and the factors affecting a hospitals overall competitiveness and sets forth the evaluation procedure, viz....

The paper presents a definition of a hospitals overall competitiveness and expounds its action mechanism, viz. the government plays a guiding role in competition, which constitutes the means via which the subjects of competition seek survival and development, the key basis for a hospital in working out its strategies, and the driving force for a hospitals development. Then it analyzes the features of and the factors affecting a hospitals overall competitiveness and sets forth the evaluation procedure, viz. establishing an evaluation index system, determining and normalizing the standard value for evaluating each index, giving each index a corresponding weight according to its importance and conducting comprehensive evaluation. Next the paper discusses ways of predicting a hospitals overall competitiveness. The steps include: making clear that the purpose of the prediction is to enhance the competitiveness of the hospital in the future, screening the data, selecting the method of prediction, setting up a mathematical prediction model, conducting prediction with the model and evaluating and modifying the evaluation results.
