It is found that 5mM sodium buty-rate inhibits both of these tumor cellsgrowth and decrease the nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio in cell line ECa-109.Of particular interest is the fact thatthere was an increase of the intensityof intracellular cAMP specific fluores-cence of the sodium butyrate treatedtumor cells in comparison with theseof the control by immunocytochcrnicalmethod.It also inhibited the 3',5'-cAMP-PDE (Adenosine 3',5'-cyclicmonophosphate phosphodiesterase) acti-vity in MGc-803 cells after treatmentwith 5mM sodium butyrate for 48—72hours by cytochemical method.Thisstudy indicates that the sodium butyratemay regulate these tumor cells cAMPlevel by inhibiting 3',5'-cAMP-PDEactivity for the induction of the dif-ferentiation of these two cancer cells.

Six cases of acute myeloid leukemia were treated with small doses of Ara-C with complete remission of 50%. The dosage of Ara-C was 10mg/m~2/12hr subcutaneously or intramuscularly for a course of 15 days. HL_(60)细胞经二甲基亚砜(DMSO)作用6天后,85%的细胞发生成熟样改变:胞体变小,胞浆颗粒增多,核凹陷,核仁模糊不清;溶菌酶分泌增加,克隆率降低;吞噬功能增强。但相当部分成熟样细胞仍有核仁,去除DMSO,进一步培养时,又恢复原来形及及增殖能力。由此认为,DMSO对HL_(60)细胞的诱导分化作用是不完全的,且具有可逆性。为从根本上改变此细胞的肿瘤特性,需探索更有效的诱导剂与诱导方法。
