The complexes of cobalt with Schiff bases derived from S-benzyldithio-carbazate have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductances, magnetic susceptibility, IR and UV-visible spectrosmetry.Based on these chemical properties examined, we can suggest that o-chloroben-zaldehyde Schiff base (HL,) forms a diamagnetic complex [Co(L1)3] having octahedral structure. The complexes of cobalt with Schiff bases derived from S-benzyldithio-carbazate have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductances, magnetic susceptibility, IR and UV-visible spectrosmetry.Based on these chemical properties examined, we can suggest that o-chloroben-zaldehyde Schiff base (HL,) forms a diamagnetic complex [Co(L1)3] having octahedral structure. Benzal acetone Schiff base (HL2) forms the dinuclear cobalt (Ⅱ) complexes CCo2(HL2) 2(L2) 2X23 (where X=Ac- or Cl-) in which the two cobalt atoms are respectively bridged by two Ac- or Cl-. These complexes have subnormal magnetic moments, it clearly shows that there is a antiferromagnetic exchange interaction in it. Ligand HL1 and [Co(L1) 3] has also been screened for bactericidal activity.
