MethodsA self-designed questionnaire was applied to survey the professional attitude of assistant nurses. Results The pro-fessional attitude of the assistant nurses was not really perfect (score: 2.31±0.16). Objective To understand the status and cognition of contagion occupational protection among the nurses in the center of blood decontamination. Methods Self-designed questionnaire about contagion occupational protection knowledge was used to understand the basic situation, laws and regulation on contagions, the routines to obtain the protective knowledge, common protective methods, demands for protection knowledge, post-training reflections and protective measures among 78 nurses in the centers of blood decontamination of 6 hospitals in Guangdong Provincial. Results The nurses in the centers of blood decontamination understood less concerning the laws and regulations on contagions. Their main knowledge on contagion protection came from clinical practice. The demands focused on the training of occupational protection theory. The protective measures the nurses took were associated to their roles,positive answer of nurse was better than that of assistant nurse. Conclusion Pertinent to the status quo of and demand for the contagion occupational protection among the nurses in the center of blood decontamination, the nursing administration should provide training on occupational protective knowledge and technique and psychological supports.

After the training the quality of assistant nurses was improved. They could gain the approval of nurses and high praise of patients. There was significant difference in their theoretical and practical results between probation period and engagement period (P<0. 05). Conclusion The application of assistant nurses is of benefit to improve the quality of integrated nursing care, to arouse the enthusiasm of nurses, to solve the problem of short of nursing manpower efficiently, to reduce the cost of nursing manpower, to boost up the satisfaction of patients.
