The IFTs(interfacial tensions) of petroleum carboxylate/alkaline/HPAM flooding system with Daqing crude oil and the effects of petroleum carboxytate and alkaline on viscosity of HPAM solution are studied. There exists remarkable synergism between HPAM and petroleum carboxylate, and the introduction of HPAM into petroleum carboxytate/alkaline system leads the lowering of IFTs against Daqing crude oil. The effects of HPAM on the IFTs of combined system can be explained as follows. Because of the repulsive forces from the negative charges on the HPAM chain, the petroleum carbonxylate groups may not be liable to form micellar and tend to migrate to oil-water interface. The introduction of petroleum carboxytate into solution of HPAM leads the decreasing of viscosity, but the extent of viscosity decreasing is much lower than that caused by inorganic salts such as NaCI and CaCl_2.

It is presented in this paper to determine the concentration of petroleum carboxylate by two-phase alkaline titration with bromocresol green indicator. The good agreement between the results from this method and the titrational analytical method of acidifing followed by titrating extractive organic acid (with ether) using sodium hydroxide is obtained.
