In order to create a retrieval mechanism for a whole melody, some new ideas are discussed...

This paper analyses the melody of music and the representation of melodic contour.The concept of a whole melody based musical retrieval model is also introduced.It consists of three parts:the standardization and abstraction of musical melody features,the recognition and abstraction of user melody input,the matching methods of retrieval and results return.It is meaningful to combine melody based retrieval and text based retrieval for the music database and music digital library.
