Phosphate glass has been widely used in lasers, especially in high power laser systems, due to its high gain coefficient, low n_2 and athermal properties. Recently, a few high power laser systems were built in the world for investigating fusion and laser interaction with plasma.In order to satisfy the special technological properties of phosphate glass, such as high volatility, low viscosity and high tendency towards devitrifieation, a series of preparation techniques, including hermetic platinum melting system...

Phosphate glass has been widely used in lasers, especially in high power laser systems, due to its high gain coefficient, low n_2 and athermal properties. Recently, a few high power laser systems were built in the world for investigating fusion and laser interaction with plasma.In order to satisfy the special technological properties of phosphate glass, such as high volatility, low viscosity and high tendency towards devitrifieation, a series of preparation techniques, including hermetic platinum melting system with special stirrer, the removing water from glass melt and flow-casting process have been developed to produce low loss, long lifetime, optically homogeneous glass blanks of large dimension. A set of melting facility was built and the laser glass produced has been used in rod laser amplifiers, up to 70mm in diameter, and disk laser amplifiers, up to 200mm in aperture.

The authors briefly trace the development of plasma-smelting processes and analysis the characteristic of plasma-smelting. It has been found that plasma, as a heat source of high temperature, high enthalpy and high density, can promote the reactions under high temperatare, contral the reactions atmosphere, reducethe volume of plasma-smelting equipment and splashing waste and can smelt special high pureness materials.The investigation of the plasmasmelting methods are discribed.

本文概述了等离子熔炼技术的发展概况;分析了等离子熔炼特点.指出等离子体作为高温、高焓、高密度的热源可促进高温反应,控制反应气氛,能使熔炼设备减小,飞溅损失减少,熔炼高纯的特球材料,并对等离子熔炼方法进行了分析探讨。
