In this paper, the author made a discussion in (considerable) detail about the nature of phase unwrapping in homomorphic deconvolution. He put forward a new, simple and reliable algorithm about the phase unwrapping, that is, the algorithm of double critical value and derivative discrimination. Besides, the relations between the critical value and the point number N were discussed in this paper as well.

Calculation using theoretical synthetic seis-mogram shows that for seismic wavelets with different phase characteristics, Burg reflection coefficient should be extracted in accordance with different directions of prediction errors. Burg reflection coefficient should take direct prediction error et(+) when the seismic wavelet is of minimum phase and it should take inverse prediction error when the seismic wavelet is of maximum phase. For mixed phase wavelet, the Burg reflection coefficient should take a linear combination of direct and inverse prediction errors where a is within 0~1. The formula for both maximum and minimum phases are derived theoretically. Furthermore, using cross-correlation of the output of different direction of prediction error with seismic record, one may obtain seismic wavelet with different phases.
