Specimens of molybdenum and Mo-base alloys with various amounts of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon were taken from ingots made by the consumable electrode vacuum arc melting process, and were examined by means of metallographic, petrographic and fractographic methods as weU as X-ray and chemical analyses. The following nonmetallic inclusions have been identified: MoO_2, γ-Mo_2N, Mo_2C, ZrO_2, ZrN, TiO, TiN, TiO_2 (containing Mo), α-Al_2O_3 and SiO_2. It was found that no MoO_2 was observed at the grain boundaries...

A preliminary study of toughening effect of ZrO_2 on pressureless sintered Si_3N_4 has been made. It is found that the amount and existing form of Al_2O_3 added in Si_3N_4 as a part of sintering aid, effect the formation of ZrN obviously. Adopting protective powder containing SiO_2, proper sintering temperature and soaking time and controlling the particle size of ZrO_2 powder would minimize the formation amount of ZrN. Based on the results of X-ray diffraction phase analysis and composition analysis of Zr by electronic probe, the toughening mechanisms of two groups of samples with different compositions have been explored. It is believed that the toughening effect can be further enhanced by using ZrO_2 powder with narrow range particle size distribution, less aggregation and uniform dispersion and so, an ideal microstructure will be obtained.

Electronic structure of Zr3N4 with ordered Zr-vacancy has been calculated by LDF-LMTO method. The results show that the primary difference of band structure of Zr3N4 as compared with its stoichiometric ZrN is that a characteristic Zr-vacancy band and a little DOS peak near Ep appear in a range of energy between p and d-bands, instead of leading to a band-gap. Therefore, the ordered Zr3N4 is not an ideal insulator.

具有有序金属缺位的Zr_3N_4的电子?构?用局域密度泛函(LDF)全电子LMTO方法进行了计算,结果表明,同理想化学比的ZrN相比,Zr_3N_4的?带不出现p-d带隙,同时由于N 2P和Zr 4d之间的耦合,在p-d带之间Fermi能附近出现特征的Zr缺位能?和小态密度峰,导致有序的Zr_3N_4并非理想的绝缘体。
